1. ZADAR

They don’t call it the Sun Salutation for nothing; the city’s brilliant installation created by world-renowned and award-winning architect, Nikola Bašić, is a must-see sunset spot. Stand on a dynamic, multicoloured solar-panel floor and watch as the sky transitions from blinding orange to sublime pink.

2. DUBROVNIK

Hike up to the summit of Mt Srđ for a bird’s eye view of Dubrovnik and the Adriatic Sea. You’ll gaze out over the terracotta roofs and Medieval walls of the city’s Old Town and, on a clear night, as far as the shores of Italy. The mountain can be reached by foot, car, or funicular. The hike up takes under an hour and you’ll pass by the historic Napoleonic Fortress. If short on time, the cable car ride takes only four minutes and offers its own Instagram-worthy views!

3. SPLIT

Besides being a great place for mountain biking, Marjan Hill is also the best sunset spot in Split. The symbolic hill has been a protected landmark since 1964 and offers a cool retreat from the summer’s sweltering heat. At 174m, Telegrin peak is the highest point on the hill and was once used as a telegraph station. Make it up the last 314 steps and you’ll be greeted by an unforgettable view of Split, as well as the surrounding Adriatic islands.

4. HVAR

This charming little island is rife with picture-perfect sunset spots. But perhaps none offers a better view than the town’s Spanish Fortress. The fortress is a Medieval defence complex perched mightily above Hvar. From here, you’ll have panoramic views of the town, the harbour, and the Pakleni islands beyond. On a clear evening, you can see as far as Vis. Just be sure to arrive early, as this spot is popular among both tourists and locals!
